What is the US states test?

The US states test is a map quiz. You see a map of the United States with one state highlighted and four state names to choose from. The test picks 20 of the 50 states at random, so every round is different.

How does the test work?

Press start and pick the name of the highlighted state. You see immediately whether you were right, and the correct answer lights up. Small states get a ring around them so you can find them. After 20 states you get your score and an overview of your answers.

States that are easy to mix up

These catch most people:

  • Wyoming and Colorado: two rectangles on top of each other
  • Vermont and New Hampshire: side by side in the northeast
  • Mississippi and Alabama: neighbours with a similar shape
  • Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas: stacked in the middle
  • North and South Dakota, North and South Carolina

Share your score

After the test you can share your result, for example: “I got 15 out of 20 correct, how many do you get?” Your friends open the link and take the same test. More into flags? Take the country flag test.
